David Beck, Managing Director / Portfolio Management
David Beck, a native of Chicago, Illinois graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a B.B.A degree in Finance. He started his career at Van Kampen Merritt Inc. where his assignments included mutual fund trading, municipal research and fund pricing. Prior to joining C.W. Henderson & Associates in July 2008, David worked at Bear Stearns & Co., where he spent over 23 years as the head municipal securities trader in the Midwest. In addition, David oversaw new issue underwriting, secondary trading and marketing of tax free products in over thirty states. David built a cohesive trading desk at Bear Stearns that focused on identifying value in the primary and secondary markets while managing a trading account that consistently delivered annual profits. David has an exceptional reputation as a municipal securities professional focused on providing excellent customer service and building strong long term relationships.
David’s focus at C.W. Henderson is on security selection and efficient trade execution to enhance client portfolios.
Monika Bhasin, Vice President - Portfolio Management
Monika Bhasin is a native of Cleveland and a graduate of Vanderbilt University where she earned a bachelor's degree in history. Prior to joining C.W. Henderson & Associates in 1996, Monika supported the efforts of two financial consultants at Smith Barney and prior to that, was a paralegal in the litigation department of McDermott, Will & Emery in Chicago.
From the time Monika joined the firm to the summer of 1998, her main responsibility involved processing security transactions and maintaining client relations. Her primary functions currently include implementing our short term investment strategy, allocating holdings among our client portfolios, interacting with our 50+ institutional brokers and conducting in-depth structural and credit research on new and secondary issues.
Monika holds an M.B.A. from Loyola University.
Matt Andrews, Assistant Vice President
Matt Andrews is a native of Kentwood, Michigan and a 2001 graduate of The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a degree in Economics. Prior to joining C. W. Henderson in March 2003, Matt worked as an Investment Advisor Representative at Zacks Investment Management in Chicago.
Matt’s primary functions include monitoring client portfolio structures to assure consistency regarding risk profiles and total return potential. In addition, he collaborates with wealth managers to explain how client portfolios can be restructured to control risk, improve returns and avoid excessive taxation. He has additional involvement in client relations, security analysis and trading.
Matt holds an MBA from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University.
Daniel Thorpe, CFA, Director of Credit Research
Dan Thorpe is a native of Wayzata, MN and a 2003 graduate of Boston College with a degree in Economics. Prior to joining C. W. Henderson in June 2010, Dan completed his MBA studies at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. From 2003 to 2008 Dan worked as a municipal bond trader/analyst at Gannett Welsh & Kotler in Boston, MA.
Dan analyzes credit characteristics of inherited and existing securities to ensure that credit standards are maintained in client accounts. In addition, he collaborates with C.W. Henderson’s traders to evaluate new issue and secondary market offerings.
Brent Engel, Assistant Vice President – Credit Research
Brent Engel is a native of Lake Forest, IL and a 2005 graduate of University of Richmond with a degree in Finance and a double major in Leadership studies. Brent began his career at Lehman Brothers in New York in the Global Communications & Media investment banking group. Prior to Joining C.W. Henderson, Brent worked at Citadel Investment Group performing fundamental research and managing a long/short portfolio of corporate fixed income securities in the telecommunications, media and technology sectors.
Brent analyzes credit characteristics of inherited and existing securities to ensure that credit standards are maintained. In addition, he collaborates with C.W. Henderson’s traders to evaluate new issues and secondary market offerings.
Kerry Kobe, Vice President - Information Technology & Operations
Kerry Kobe, a native of Northern Virginia and graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1998 with a degree in Finance and Business Economics, joined the firm in the summer of 1998.
When Kerry initially joined the firm, her main responsibilities were trade processing, client relations, and technology for the company. Subsequent growth required that Kerry focus her attention on developing and enhancing the firm’s technology infrastructure. As manager of Information Technology, Kerry focuses on assuring that hardware and software assets are sufficient to support the continued growth of the firm. She is responsible for third party vendor vetting, engagements and implementation coordination. Kerry designs and maintains the firm’s website and works with the marketing team to develop efficient information distribution processes. Kerry also supports various client service efforts.
Kerry holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.
Clare Retrum, Vice President - Operations
Clare, a native of River Forest, IL holds her undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Clare joined C. W. Henderson & Associates in 2001 and has expanded systems and procedures that have supported the firm’s growth.
Clare Retrum supervises the firm’s client service efforts that include account set up, back office operations, portfolio reporting, billing, account reconciliation, system integration and operations. These functions provide critical support to the firm’s investment process and support relations with clients, advisors and consultants. She provides valuable client service to meet the needs of our clients, advisors and consultants.
Clare holds an MBA from DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.
Jeanhee Hoffman, Vice President - Marketing
Jeanhee Hoffman, a native of a Northwest suburb of Chicago and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with bachelor's degree in finance, joined the firm in June 1997. Prior to joining C.W. Henderson & Associates, Jeanhee spent three and a half years as a sales associate with Bernardi Securities, Inc., a municipal broker-dealer in Chicago. Her past work experience also includes financial planning, management, and human resources.
Jeanhee is responsible for marketing, new business development, and client service and she maintains relationships with consultants, financial planners and other investment professionals. She reports performance data to record keeping institutions, such as, eVestment Alliance, PSN - Informa Investment Solutions, and Nelson Investment Manager Database, and completes questionnaire requests. Jeanhee is also responsible for the administration and accounting functions for the firm.
Kim Lundgren, Assistant Vice President
Kim Lundgren is a native of Deerfield, Illinois and a 1999 graduate of Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois where she received a Bachelor's degree in Management and Marketing. Prior to joining C.W. Henderson in June 2001, Kim worked as an Account Executive for Sierra Systems, an information technology placement firm in Chicago.
Kim focuses on administration and marketing for the firm. She manages internal office functions, assists with new business development, and maintains the company’s CRM system as well as communications with investment advisors and consultants.
Kim holds an MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Rob Richards, Associate
Rob Richards, a native of Grand Rapids, MI, and graduate of the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor with a degree Economics, joined the firm in August of 2007. Rob’s primary role is to enhance the firm’s portfolio management system by processing security transactions, settling trades, reconciling client portfolios, processing billing and client reporting. He also provides valuable client service to meet the needs of our clients, advisors and custodians.
Shannon McGorry, Associate
Shannon McGorry, a native of Buffalo, NY and graduate of Miami University at Oxford, Ohio with a degree in Finance, joined the firm in July 2008. Shannon’s primary role is to enhance the firm’s portfolio management system by processing security transactions, settling trades, reconciling client portfolios, processing billing and client reporting. She also provides valuable client service to meet the needs of our clients, advisors and custodians.
